Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain has gone on record stating that he thinks it’s great that former frontman Steve Perry has been performing after years away from the stage. Perry has been stealing headlines by performing encore cameos at recent concerts by alternative band Eels in Los Angeles, California; Washington, D.C; and St. Paul, Minnesota.
Cain, along with Journey co-founders Neal Schon and Ross Valory, has been touring the globe consistently since Perry begged off live performance with the band back in 1998. He was quoted by Ultimate Classic Rock as saying that Perry returning to the stage was inevitable: “I think it needed to happen. You get a monkey off your back. You get out in front of the people and feel what that feels like. I’m very happy for him that he has embraced this concept of, ‘This is who I am today and I don’t sing like I used to sing.’ I think he’ll enjoy it and embrace it.”
