What's Up With Donna?
I’ve been working lately cleaning out my old house getting it ready to sell it. I was in the attic the other day cleaning it out and going through old pictures, awards and special handmade cards my kids made me when they were growing up. As I sat there, I had a thought “being a mom is, without a doubt, my greatest accomplishment in life”. With each photo, colored picture, card and award, my grin got a little bigger and my heart was melting. The memories were just flowing and maybe a tear or two as well.
I don’t know about other moms but my favorite gifts were handmade from my kids. I found special heartfelt cards from Ryan and Brandi. Austin made me a book for my birthday one year with pictures and the words to the song “You Are My Sunshine” (we used to sing it to each other). Those are precious memories to me and I’ll hold on to those keepsakes forever.
I have honestly had many struggles throughout my life that most don’t know about. I have put them behind me. But when times were tough, my kids were always there to make me laugh or smile. They would make funny faces, say something to make me laugh or just give me a hug at just the right time.
They say everyone has a purpose in life. For me, I believe my purpose is to be the mother of Ryan, Brandi and Austin and the “GiGi” to little Chloe Lynn when she arrives in June. Being a mom is the best job in the world. It’s difficult sometimes, I’ll certainly admit that. I’ve not done everything right, but I think I did the best I could and I learned a lot along the way. My kids taught me so much and for that I am grateful.
Ryan, Brandi and Austin thank you for allowing me to be your mom. I could not be more proud of the three of you and I love you all more than words can say. So this Mother’s Day I will celebrate my greatest accomplishments in life, my kids. And to my mother, Barbara, thanks so much for everything you‘ve done for me, the sacrifices you made for me and your unconditional love and support throughout the years. I love you with all of my heart.
And, I hope each and every mother will have a very special day filled with precious memories. Celebrate with love and laughter and know how much you are loved and appreciated. Happy Mother’s Day!
