We’ve been together for 15 years, during which time I have watched him grow, and struggle, and behave like a true heroic figure for his family and his community. He saved our little girl and foster daughter from our house fire in the middle of the night, just a few days before Christmas. He made the impossible decision to stop life saving measures on his Dad, and in order to honor his wishes, coordinated every detail of his Celebration of Life, doing it all himself- following a recent cancer diagnosis of his own. He showed up everyday, and worked until he was forced to take time off. He lost his ability to swallow, even water, but he beat that cancer! And he showed up to every support group meeting, even when he couldn’t speak. Every physical therapy session. Every check-up. And he took everything that cancer took from him back! Nowadays he takes nothing for granted, he drives his daughter to school every morning, brings his wife coffee in bed. He makes certain that his special needs son has every resource available to him. He owns and operates a construction business, and his honesty and excellent craftsmanship, along with his commitment to treating employees well & ensuring fair wages and production bonuses, all give him a sense of pride and duty to his clients and employees. After work he enjoys time with his family, caring for aging parents, finding the magic in the things most people take for granted. The sacrifices this man makes are incredible and they are SEEN. He deserves to be recognized for his resilience, his talent, his dedication, and the way in which he loves and gives with his entire heart.
